TV is more racist than we realised!

Have a look at the picture below and tell me what do you see? Or perhaps, what your DON'T see?

That's right, no black friends? In the 10 years this show ran, why did they not have a black friend?

And now look at this show:Do no black people live New York city?

Why are there no black main characters in these famous TV shows?
  • Friends
  • Sex and the City
  • Seinfeld
  • Everybody Loves Raymond
  • Smallville (The black guy was there for ONE season)
All shows with no black people?

And why are there no black super heroes? They wear masks and costumes, so surely Marvel could have made at least ONE black super hero!

I guess - but then isn't that reality? To be quiet honest only a few circles really do 'mix'. Just go to a high school university campus anywhere - black kids group together, muslims, jews, hindus et cetera. The older people get - the more they segregate.

I've had this argument (vis a vis Friends) with my uncle so many times - he is convinced it's racist (by omission) and i'm convinced it's at least real.

Ofcourse at some really abstract (politically correct) level we all think we mix - but we do we really?

    Very true.
    Birds of a feather...!

However, I do not think that racism should be judged solely on the presence of inter-racial groups but should be the willingness to accept these races as being part of society as a whole.

Friends bothers me, because they fail to accept the presence of black ppl in NYC. So does Sex and the City. By not recognising the existence of these communities in NYC, they are being racist.
I am not at all saying that they needed a black friend sitting on the couch in Central Perk, but perhaps including their presence in other scenes would have made it less obviously segregated!

    Yeah, true ... you're right.

I guess i never saw it that way. Never been to NYC, but i'd guess they do have a lot of blacks there which don't feature at all, even as extras.

    Yup.

You also have a very good point. All of us have racist tenancies. We can deny it as much as possible, and the first argument that we will hear is "I have a black friend!"

It is natural to be scared of what we don't understand.

The racism argument will go on forever!

The show(sex and the city) is racist for a different reason, the way they potrayed black cameos was quite racist. check out the post about it on Stuffblackpeoplehate.com

Another reason the shows are racist is that they were shot in New york city, the most culturally diverse city, how can you make a show about people living in new york and not have black,Indian, lationo etc people on it?! it doesn't make sense
