It is really great that Symbian is starting to show signs of maturity across their OS. One of the really great features of the Nokia E71, is the highly manageable alarm clock. We take this feature for granted, but we must admit that we use this feature alot more than quite a few other features on our phones.

Setting up the alarm on the Nokia E71 is slightly different to the standard Symbian S60 layout, in that it is now found in a new folder in the menu and the alarm settings now allow it to be a lot more customisable.

Follow this easy step by step guide to set up the alarm:

  1. Press the menu button. By default, this is the button with the home icon. See the diagram below:
  2. Open the Office folder.
  3. Open the Clock application
  4. Use the right scroll to open the alarm tab.
  5. Press the Options button and click on New Alarm.
  6. Set the time.
  7. Give the alarm a name.
  8. Set how often you would like it to repeat, daily, weekly, or workdays.
  9. Click OK!
You can have multiple alarms set for multiple tasks, with multiple repeat schedules, which is very cool.

    @Andrew - Thanks for visiting!

Setting a music track as an alarm tone is very simple. Follow the steps listed above to get you into the main screen of the clock application.

Then hit "Options" and scroll down to "Settings", enter the "Settings" menu.

Scroll down until you get "Clock Alarm Tone" which should be about 9 or 10 places from the top. Enter this menu.

Select the track that you would like to assign as your alarm tone and then hit "Select".

    That should do the trick!

Thank you!! this was really helpful. I had wasted a day on finding the alarm settings on this phone. Why does Nokia have the alarm settings in the Office folder?? I think they've gone nuts.....

Couldn't find how to set up the weekly schedule to only ring on Friday's 12:55pm

You know kids get off school at 1:00pm instead of usual 2:45.

Looks like I have to wait till Friday to be able to setup an alarm that only rings on Fridays :-)

Where is the alarm volume? Does it take another hour to find out how to set the volume?
    Not happy!

  21. Anonymous // 15 March 2010 at 17:51

Stupidly - Nokia does not allow us to set the volume of the alarm(s) independently of the Ringer volume. If you want to change the volume of the Alarm you must go into the Profile and increase/decrease the Ringer volume. How idiotic! I have a 10 year old Motorola v190 - hardly a high end phone - that lets me set independent alarm volumes for each alarm I set up. Wake up Nokia.

How do I set it to ring today, today is Friday, I selected Friday. When I reviewed it it showed the date as next Friday.
