I’m on my way to Beijing, China, to spend some time with my babes! I’ve been meaning to go for a long time, but circumstances and Murphy made sure that I haven’t made it as yet!
So early evening yesterday, 30 September, I was dropped off at Cape Town International Airport and a few hours later I’m boarding a flight to Doha. It was a pleasant flight, bar the stale toasted roll that I was served as a snack. Chicken, cheese and peppers…yum! The other meals were really good!
After a pretty long flight and me doing a small acrobatic stunt to fit my +PLUS sized ass across 3 seats dodging armrests and managing to stay strapped in with my seatbelt (This feat would make McGyver jealous!), I arrived in Doha about 2 hours ago, just before 7am local time.
Doha International is a kinda funny to pin down in words. It’s a mix between the glam life of Dubai but on a very rundown, unmaintained level. The floors are dirty, the bathrooms are horrible and the airport food court reminds me of a dodgy Gatsby take-away in Cape Town called Golden Dish, but the lights are bright and they have a Range Rover parked in the Duty Free area!
On arrival, I’m told that my visa wasn’t arranged by my travel agent, so I’m stuck here for 18 hours. Great!
The guys at Flight Centre better pull through for me, cos I’m borderline pissed now!

Jacob Zuma has completely stuffed up the credibility of the "INDEPENDENT" Judicial system of South Africa. A system that is supposed to be above all entities and treat every South African with the same judgemental waryness, has successfully proved that Jacob Zuma is above the law!My question now to South Africa is, why would we want someone who has been suspected of criminal activities (rape, fraud, corruption) to lead us? Why is he even being considered by the public? Is this the kind of leadership that we want?
With a discredited justice system, this nation is doomed!

I really enjoy a good cup of coffee. I'm also naturally fullashit to the point that I rarely trust a cup of coffee to be good when I buy it, so I tend to prefer making my own. There are some really great coffee joints in Cape Town where you can buy a decent cup of coffee, but sadly, they are far and few between.
This evening, I tried the new Vida e Caffe at Century City. I grabbed an Americano on the run. I love Vida e for the concept, for being the only "on the run" coffee franchise in SA and for the excellent branding. But oh dear is their coffee CRAP!
But I know this! I've known it for a while. Infact, most would agree, the coffee at Vida really doesn't deserve to be called coffee, but more akin to dirty water with a bitter taste and a dash of milk!
I go back to their stores with this deep down hope that perhaps the refugee behind the counter with the cool personality and funky accent will by some great act of the heavens, pull off a great cup of coffee.
Sadly, it hasn't happened!
Kudos to the company for putting together an excellent brand identity and for a very slick experience everytime, but c'mon people...

The least that he could do, is demand a free and fair election and demand that Mugabe accepts the result as the final decision making factor for the future of his presidency. Mbeki could impose sanctions on Zim and refuse any assistance until Mugabe steps down.
Saying that a harsher stances needs to be taken, is a bit like saying birds have feathers... its an outright given!

The state of corruption within the Home Affairs department has once again come under question, during the recent xenophobia-related violence.
This problem has been brewing for many years now and however sad the repercussions, I belief that it is doing a very good job of highlighting the level of incompetencies of our various government departments. Don't get me wrong, I am not a government basher, in fact I have the utmost respect and admiration for some of our departments that continually impress me with their innovative, organized and well executed plans to enhance "the system", and our revenue service, SARS, is one such example.
With our president once again displaying his lack of leadership qualities and his inability to make a decision, the problem has now erupted into an uncontrollable scenario, that leaves me questioning my pride for this nation.
One needs to ask:
- Would this problem have been so bad if our country established a harsher stance to Mugabe and his idiot policies?
- What if we had better controlled borders?
- What if we had a less corrupt home affairs department?
- What if measures were established years ago to enhance better trade in this country and drive unemployment down?

So today was the first day after a pretty unproductive, useless and pointless week. Last week saw Monday, Thursday and Friday as public holidays in SA with many South Africans calling in sick Tuesday and Wednesday!
How much work got done during those two days?
Nothing! Nada! Zilch!
Being self employed, I had to work last week, because I don't have the privileges of leave days, holidays and even public holidays afforded to me. I don't mind working on public holidays, I just mind not receiving replies to my emails from companies who should have been working!
So after a week of sitting and waiting with NO response to any of my emails from ANY company that I work with, I was expecting a flurry today. HA!
It seems that South Africa is still in 'Braai Mode' and will probably feel the effects of Monday morning coffee TOMORROW!
It's been a few days since my last post.
I'm sorry!
I know that I have disappointed many of my loyal readers. This blog has become known as the blog with fresh posts all the time and an old post since Thursday last week is never a good accompaniment with such a reputation.
I've been a bit out of it lately. Feeling lethargic and sleeping quite a bit. I haven't been to the gym in a while for no specific reason and I have really been feeling a bit down. My angel has been super busy with exams and I guess I miss her too much to function normally!
With that said, I really hope that she kicks ass in these exams. She really works too hard for that not to happen anyway.
I've also been busy with the startups that I'm involved in. Establishing processes for a company that plays in a virtual world is not as easy as one might think, as everything is unconventional, but none-the-less, LiquidSynergy has grown rapidly and I am proud to announce successful the migration of our business model into a virtual office model with the flawless execution of a range of projects and things are looking good.
CheapTrip.co.za has been taking a bit of abuse (by neglect) from me lately, but this is due mainly to the fact that LiquidSynergy is demanding right now and requires more of my attention that I have to share.
Though, I've been trying to negotiate with an accommodation supplier for Southern Africa recently, but the technical staff have been so blatantly inept that I am about to start calling them Telkom (by negative conclusion). Anyway, as soon as I have the supply working, I will launch it on the site ahead of the June/July Durban rush and the mid-year school holidays!
Further, I would like to state for the record that this week is a blatant waste of time. It has been completely impossible to have anything done since Thursday last week and I expect this to continue until at least Tuesday next week. We don't NEED the extra holidays now and most of us honestly don't care of what the day symbolises. In fact, most South Africans don't even know what the holiday is for!
A couple of years back, South Africa won the rights to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Seen as the single most spectacular event ever to come to Africa, we were definitely super excited.
We've since rolled out multi-billion rand projects all over South Africa to prepare us for this event. New stadiums, roads, railway systems, hotels, airport extensions, the government is even legalising prostitution for the event. The hope of the people has definitely been riding on a major high, with all this development and change taking place, with South Africans have been starting a myriad of different startup businesses in the hope to catch the cash wave en route SA during the games.
All really cool, except that our soccer team, Bafana Bafana suck!
We win games every now and again and have even won the African Cup of Nations, but we definitely not on the same level as previous World Cup winners yet and as matters stand, if we make it to the Quarter finals, I will be pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, I'm very patriotic and supporting Bafana Bafana during the games with the rest of the nation will be very exciting. In fact I have already purchased my Vuvuzela :).
Anyway, my point. To help our pathetic soccer team to achieve a miracle, we hired the miracle coach! Carlos Alberto Parreira, the Brazilian coach responsible for many Brazilian wins and who has a formidable track record. One of the strongest no-bullshit coaches we could have hired!
Having him in the driver seat of our team, has given many of hope and we run around thinking that we actually stand a chance of winning this thing! we were ALL shocked, when we heard his salary though and the way we looked at the aging coach become relatively different. R1.8 Million PER MONTH! That, my friend is a shit load of money!
But now, the doos has quit. His wife is sick and he wants to go home to cuddle.
Now listen here, you overpaid arrogantly stubborn prat; you KNEW that your wife was sick before you accepted the job. Instead YOU chose to come here, push people around, give South Africans false hope and then take our tax rands without even a thank you before buggering off! Buy a new wife dammit. We pay you enough!

So in the spirit of helping out, I've come up with a list of some the things that you could try to make you feel better today.
- Have a GOOD breakfast. I'm talking about going the whole 9 yards!
- Get some! Yes, you know what I mean. That should put the bounce in your step!
- Wear something new today!
- Hit the gym! Have a nice long and hard run, come home and sleep like a baby till Tuesday, which is half way to being half way to the weekend!
- Listen to Vanilla Ice or something else that corny and cheezy reeeeaaaally loud and sing along with it!
- Drive with your window open, the music loud and sing!
- Listen to Gareth Cliff on 5fm. No-one talks more kak than him on a Monday!
- Just say "Bugger it"and call in sick. The DVD store has EVERYTHING on its shelf on a Monday, so its the perfect time to watch that movie that is always out!
- Slap someone! There is no better relief than letting it all out on someone. May I suggest the turd at work who has been drawing closer to an Attitude Adjusting Klap (AAK) for a while now?

The Competition Commission has finally woken up to the fact the consumers in SA are being financially raped by the sole fixed-line operator, Telkom.
The case is set to be heard by the Pretoria high Court on the 24th of this month, but it seems that Telkom has its argument ready. An act passed in 2005 called the Electronics Communication Act, section 36 makes it very clear that the only body allowed to question Telkom is Icasa, therefore making the Competition Commissions regulations irrelevant to Telkom.
Let's just hope that the Competition Act. renders Icasa's regulation as useless as what Icasa actually is.
Now, remember, Icasa is the same bunch of idiots that canned the WiMax testing in SA by canceling MWEB's WiMax licenses. Great stuff Icasa, we will forever be screwed over by the monopoly that Telkom has in SA and will forever be stuck in the dark days of 1MBps ADSL connections costing as much as a car repayment.

Deputy minister of Safety and Security has recently come out and told police to "Kill the bastards!" in a recent policing conference of some sort. She was referring to the hardcore criminals that have infested our streets and breed rape, murder and child abuse amongst other crimes.
Since the dawn of the "New South Africa", I have heard literally thousands of complaints from South Africans bitching about the state of crime in this country. It is rated as the most popular reason for emigrating amongst those who have abandoned us and reason for those who have claimed to have lost hope in our home.
Now tell me this, why the bloody hell would you same nagging South Africans now stand up and give the Deputy flack for her statements? She is doing EXACTLY what you all want in the first place. A zero tolerance to crime. We are not talking about using snipers to shoot pick pockets, we are talking about murderous car hijackers who just finished rape a 12 yr old girl in front of her parents before killing the parents, child molesters and those sick f!@ks who rape babies. BABIES dammit!
I'm pissed off at at this nation for being such hypocrites.
Make up your bloody mind! Do you want to be raped the next time you pull your car out of the drive way and then have your car stolen or do you want to be able to walk to the corner cafe after dark again, like we used to in the early 90's. If you really want you and family to safe, may i suggest shutting the f!@k up and supporting this new drive for a no bullshit approach to our crime issue.
Can we stop talking about doing something, and actually let those who WANT to do something get on with things?!
I'm no fan of Zuma! Fair enough the guy is yet to be convicted of his crimes but I dont think that we need a leader with criminal charges pending over his head. The guy has become the punch line for many bar jokes lately and many many South Africans have a hugely negative perception of guy and are even making plans to migrate as he comes to into office.
He is also chief of a group who call themselves "Dumb things to say on trial!"
But, and this is a huge but, Zuma has been impressing me lately. Finding all the right policies to throw his weight behind and scoring points with the people by calling for the death penalty, by supporting root level revamps of various ministries and now his latest call for a no nonsense stand on crime.
"Let us do something that favours the victim and not the criminal. We overstretch human rights some times." was his words. He also asked, "Why are rapists and murderers allowed bail applications?".
If he has what it takes to rid South Africa of at least the crime, then I say hell yeah, bring it Jay Zee!
